These past few weeks have been a blast!  Every day I’m doing something new, exploring new places that I have never been before.  With the new friends I’ve made, I’ve become even busier as I’m spending more and more time with each and every one of them.  A Hanami here, a restaurant visit there, and a lot of funny picture-taking everywhere!
The very first thing I did when I got back to school was a Hanami.  But this Hanami was not just any Hanami, it was an extra special Hanami.  My friends and I got together, played our instruments, and sang for everyone that joined us.

This year, Akita’s Sakura trees were covered with not only flowers but leaves.  Usually Sakura flowers bloom in March, however due to the long winter season in Akita, flowers here don’t bloom until late May.  Luckily for me, because of this occurrence, I got to experience not only Tokyo’s Sakura, but Akita’s Sakura as well!

The other day, I went to the Namahage Restaurant!  It was quite expensive, but the experience was very much worth it as the restaurant had some very interesting ways in serving its customers.  The whole restaurant is Japanese style, so instead of chairs, you’ll get to sit on a tatami mat while you eat.

Most of the dishes in this restaurant were cooked in front of us through different methods.  One of the first dishes we ate, was cooked over this lantern looking thing that they placed in front of us.  When they presented the food, they brought out a whole plate/basket full of fresh fish and asked us which of them we wanted.  Once we picked a fish, they would cook it over some sort of Bar-B-Que mechanism in front of us.

One of the foods they gave us, they placed onto a rice paddle and cooked it using a blowtorch.  The presentation at this restaurant was so fascinating, I feel like this would be a great place to take my friends and family if they ever were to come to Akita.
The soup there was delicious!  The ice cream was super delicious too!  I’m not too sure if I remember correctly, but the ice cream we ate that day was Soy bean Ice cream.  It was very interesting as you could eat it with shoyu.

Within these few days at the Namahage Restaurant and the Hanami, I discovered an awesome phone application that takes your picture and turns it into a Manga looking picture!  It was so cool, I started to edit and take pictures of all sorts of people doing funny poses.

Another great discovery is the new music that I found while listening to people sing.  I’ve been amazed at the new music that I’ve found in Japan.  There is this rock band here that sounds ridiculously similar to American rock bands.  However, the great thing about this band is the fact that they fuse both English and Japanese in their songs.
